Blog more

I made a promise to myself that I would blog more, but that hasn't happened. I am sorry dear readers for that. I truly do blame my A.D.D. My brain just goes in 5 million different directions that I forget to write down my thoughts or to post what I have made for dinner. I promise that I will be writing more about everything. To tell the truth I need it, I need to let out my frustrations about my life, about deployment and about the normal boring stuff. For now though this little post will just have to be good enough.

Asian spring rolls

I love Spring Rolls! I could eat them and eat them and never be tired of them. Ok I could probably get tired of them but not for a long time lol You might be scared to make them because they seem hard but I promise they are SUPER easy.

Ingredients
 spring roll wrappers
½ cup rice noodles
lettuce
½ small cucumber, cut into strips
2 whole green onions, sliced into strips
20 Shrimp,cooked

Directions

First things first, you need to get all of your ingredients together and cut.

First you are going to boil water cook your rice noodles. Cook for about 5 minutes or until the noodles are soft, slippery, and translucent. When the noodles are done, rinse them in cold water.  Set aside.

Next, you are going boil and slice the shrimp in half

Next you are going to cut and slice your cucumber. I like to take the seeds out of my cucumber

and slice your onions and lettuce

Now its time to start putting together your roll!!!!!!!!

Fill a large shallow bowl with hot water (hot tap water should be fine). Put the spring roll wrapper in the hot water for about 30 seconds

Next you are going to pile on your lettuce, noodles, cucumber, onion, and shrimp

and roll it all up like a burrito and there you have it. A yummy spring roll!

ENJOY!!!!!

Proud Military Spouse

As military spouses we go through a lot. Separation from our family, moving at a moments notice,  days, weeks and sometimes months of our significant other being gone on trainings and Deployments. The one thing though that nothing and no one can take away from any of us is our love and support that we have for our service member. Many of us show this support in many ways. Sometimes its just letting our service member know that they are loved by us. Other ways are by a sticker on our car or fridge saying, I  my______. I myself have a magnet on my fridge that I see right now that says, I  my Sailor. I also MANY shirts that say NAVY on them, shirts supporting the ship my husband is on and I also have 2 pairs of PT sweat pants. We all show our support differently, that is what is great about being apart of a HUGE military community.

As of late though there are many people out there in real life, on facebook and twitter that make fun of military spouses that wear shirts and have purses and other things like that that support the military community. What makes it even worst is that many of the people that are making fun of others are military spouses themselves. In the world of instant messaging, Facebook, twitter and smart phones, its very easy to become the bully. Its easy because you have no face to face consequences. You don't see the person crying because you upset them. You don't see that your words on a screen have a lot more meaning then you probably meant them to be.  Its sad that many military spouses break each other down instead of lifting each other up.

I do admit that I have made fun of other military spouses. I do admit that I have "liked" the pages that do nothing but make fun of the things other military spouses say, do and wear and I feel bad about it. I however  NEVER have and NEVER will make fun of those that want to wear a shirt that supports the military or a specific branch of the military.

Many of you might say to me, Well you need to remember about OPSEC and PERSEC because you don't know who is out there or who is going to follow you because you are wearing something that screams military wife. I by no means deny that as MILSOs we need to be vigilant about what is going on around us and what we say and do around people that we don't know. There are many people out there that would love nothing more then to hurt the United States by doing something to a military members family member. However there comes a point when you just have to let others be themselves even if you don't agree with what they say and do.

I proudly support my husband and all that he has done for this country in the past 12 years he has been in the Navy. I will continue to show my support by telling him he is loved and that I will go along with whatever he wants to do in the Navy. I will also show my support for him and my other family members who are and were in the military by wearing T-shirts, pants and whatever else I want.

In the end I am responsible for me, no one else is. I will go on being a proud Navy wife, Air Force cousin, and Army daughter and grand daughter.

Deployment Murphy law number #2.... or how I almost killed the weed wacker

Murphy's law states that anything that can go wrong, will go wrong, and boy on monday afternoon it did go wrong. VERY WRONG!

Let me start off by say I HATE doing yard work. My hate for yard work started at an early age since one of my chores was to mow the yard on the ranch I grew up on. I had to mow probably at least half an acre with a push mower. So needless to say yard work and I don't get along too well. On monday it was no different.

Being a good wife of a deployed sailor is hard. You have to do things you REALLY HATE doing, things like using the weed wacker. So monday afternoon I took my happy butt out to the backyard to do the yard work that my husband normally does. If you could have only seen me dear readers. There I was talking to myself, Ok Willow you can do this, its easy. Easy? Haha NOT! I must have pulled on that damn string to try start it 45 minutes. It would start for like 5 seconds then turn off. I for real wanted to kill it. I wanted to bring it above my head and hit the ground with it and scream, START YOU PIECE OF SHIT!! I of course didn't because my husband would hate me for that. Instead I sat in the middle of the back yard crying my eyes out. So far during this deployment I haven't really cried alot, but on monday I did. I then decided to email my husband and tell him all about it,

I AM FREAKING OVER THIS SHITTY DEPLOYMENT!!!!
I have tried for what seems forever to start that damn weed wacker and you know what? IT WON'T FUCKING START!!! Correction it will start but for half a second but after that NOTHING. OH AND THE FUCKING LAWN MOWER WON'T START AGAIN!!  I have had enough!! I freaking sat in the middle of the backyard and had a mini meltdown.
I am taking the mower to Home Depot to have them look at it since its still under warranty and then I am going to workout.
The man was smart and didn't really say anything about it. He just knows when to just let me scream and yell at him LOL

So after everything I didn't get the weed wacker to start but I am ok with that cause I hate using it.

Spouse Experience

So this past saturday I went to an event hosted by military.com and spouse buzz called Spouse Experience and it was AMAZING!! The people I met were amazing and I learned so much.

Before it all started though I told myself that I was going to make myself get out of my comfort zone a little and not be around any of my friends that I knew were going and I was going to sit with people I didn't know at all. I don't know about you dear reader but when I go to an event or even an FRG meeting I tend to stick around the people I know because I feel safe. This deployment I told myself I wasn't going to do that, I was going to get out of the safe box and do things I didn't really like to do. You know what? IT WAS AWESOME!! I met some amazing ladies and we talked about how silly our husbands are and how we like to shoe shop just a little too much lol. My kind of girls

After meeting the girls at my table the fun started!

Jacey Eckhart talking about using the deployment card

To open the day up one of my favorite bloggers, Jacey Eckhart talked about using the deployment card. The whole room was rolling with laughter because I am sure each and every one of us at one point in time have used the deployment card. Now I know people would say, now Willow you shouldn't use the deployment card because people will know your husband is gone. I know its not always the safest thing to do but sometimes you have to pull out that deployment card, like when you find yourself crying in the middle of Target lol

honey badger don't care

Now I don't know about you but when my husband and I fight we sometimes one up each other on who can be louder or angrier. I learned that this is known as being the honey badger. We have all done it. Our service member says something mean and then we come back with something even meaner and it just goes up and up and then Willow is slamming doors and crying. They key to NOT being the honey badger is to think before you open your big fat mouth lol or else the crazy honey badger comes out and takes what it wants. So remember friends, Don't be the honey badger.

I had so much fun this past weekend meeting some amazing people and learning things. I laughed a lot and cried some and over all had an amazing time.. One of the best parts, I got to meet one of my favorite military bloggers, Jacey Eckhart.

Wish I could write more but I am currently in the middle of a trip from Va to Tx to help move my best friend who's husband just got out of the Navy.

Aunt Mae's chicken aka Cranberry chicken

Most of my friends do not know that my dad's side of the family is Jewish. Even though I am not technically Jewish myself that part of my family and background is very important to me. When I was younger I used to go to California to spend Passover with my family. When I was first in college I went down and one of the dishes that my Aunt Mae (My grandpa's sister) made was this YUMMY cranberry chicken dish, I didn't know that until this past Passover that it wasn't something that my Aunt Mae made up lol.

So this year in honor of Passover I made Aunt Mae's chicken :) Whenever I make it its a BIG hit! If you want a new chicken dish you NEED to make this!

Things you will need:
6 boneless skinless chicken breasts
2 cans of whole cranberrys sauce
1 bottle of French dress
2 packages of onion soup mix

*if you don't like alot of onion then you can use just 1 package of onion soup mix

First you need to pre heat your oven to 350 degrees

In a bowl mix with the chicken mix the cranberry sauce, dressing, and soup mix. I like to mix it with my hands to break-up all of the whole cranberries but if you don't like to do that sort of thing you can use a large spoon.

After you are done mixing everything add it all to a baking dish and cover with foil and bake in the over until top is bubbly and slightly browned, about 1 hour and 15 minutes.

After about its finished take it out of the oven and let it cool about 15 or so minutes and serve!

cheese filled chicken

All I can say about this recipe is that its a hit! Its not the healthiest dish on the planet but sometimes you just need to make something that is not healthy lol
Ingredients:
~1 thing of thin sliced chicken (or you can just get regular chicken breast and slice them thin)
~1 package of bacon
~ I package of cream cheese
~your favorite seasonings, I used italian and garlic salt for this one
First off you are going to whip your cream cheese up. I normally use the food processor but using a hand mixer is fine too, just make sure your cream cheese is a little melted. After you have your cream cheese mixed up add your spices. I used about a table spoon of spices but you can put in as much or little as you want
Now its time to assemble your chicken. Your to start an assemble line with your chicken, cream cheese and bacon
First lay down your chicken breast
Then take a small spoonful of cream cheese and spread it on the chicken breast
After you have spread the cream cheese on the chicken role it up
Now take a piece of bacon and wrap it around your chicken roll and place it on a cookie sheet
Repeat until you have used all of the chicken
With this batch after I was done wrapping them all up I put mango chutney on top but you can put bbq sauce on top if you want or nothing at all.
Now bake in a 375 degree over for about 25 minutes or until the bacon is crispy and enjoy

Lets go clamming!

For my last weekend in Wa state I went with my mom and step dad to Ocean Shores, Wa to spend time and to go razor clam digging. I had such a wonderful time clam digging and having fun with my family.
